Yasser and Maisun work frantically in the counting by 10 station.
As we near the end of our investigation into skip counting, we spent the past week reinforcing our skills at review stations that were set up in the classroom. Each station contained three Ziploc bags that were labelled with numbers that fit a specific skip counting pattern. Each student was timed by their partner to see how quickly they could arrange the pattern correctly. To further challenge them, their partners were required to either secretly remove a few of the cups or rearrange their positions. Again this was followed by a timed activity where the other student had to make the necessary adjustments and corrections. One of the review stations consisted of Ziploc bags that contained 16 numbers that fit into 3 or 4 "different" skip counting patterns. This particular station challenged everybody in the room, but many persevered and were able to arrange them successfully. In this coming week we will direct our attention towards counting combinations of coins using skip counting strategies.
