Earlier this week, we decided to take advantage of the great autumn weather and head out to the pond that is just south of the school. My little scholars are becoming more and more proficient at using their five senses to analyze their surroundings so I allowed them the opportunity to showcase their ideas out in the real world. I collected their ideas onto the chart paper and modeled sentence structure to them just before i allowed them to write their own draft.
Students have been collecting a portfolio of writing samples covering a variety of topics. Since the start of the year, the focus continues to be on descriptive writing using the five senses. Analyzing photographs, story starters as well as many students' personal favorite----play-doh creations. This involved students writing a descriptive paragraph about a model they constructed out of play-doh.
